Hardware Parts Installed in a CNC Lathe Machine


A CNC lathe machine is a regular lathe machine with an additional CNC control panel fitted to it. All the functionalities of a CNC lathe are controlled by using CNC control. In this article, you will know about the different CNC machining hardware parts.



Different Hardware Parts of CNC machine

Headstock- 

The headstock of the CNC lathe machine holds the main motor which is required to drive the spindle. Just above the spindle, chuck is mounted. The CNC programming gives further instructions to the lathe for shifting gears. 

CNC lathe-bed-

The CNC lathe-bed is covered with a tool turret which travels just above the lathe-bed. It is specially hardened to prevent adverse machining effects. The CNC lathe bed is designed in a way to obtain accurate materials. A CNC lathe-bed consumes less power as compared to other lathe-beds. 

Chuck-

The job of the chuck is to hold the job that is to be machined. The jaws of the chuck are designed to grip the job piece firmly for the machining process to start. 

Tailstock-

Tailstock adds force from the other end of the job piece for the smooth machining process. It is moved forward and backward using a tailstock quill.

Foot Switches or pedals- 

Foot Switches are designed to actual the tailstock quill and the chuck. The chuck grip can be opened and closed using these switches or pedals. 

CNC control panel- 

It is the most important hardware of a CNC lathe machine. All the programs are stored inside this control panel that is essential for the operation of the machine.
